Our location tells our story: we are a downtown church on Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala, Florida, bridging the gap between middle and upper-middle class neighborhoods to our south and the poor and working-class neighborhoods to our north. We have chosen to stay downtown while many other churches have moved to the suburbs and outlying areas because we believe God has called us to stay and serve in the midst of so much need.
We increasingly find our identity in bridging the gap, or as the prophet Isaiah states, repairing the breach. Our greatest joy and greatest challenge lies in building bridges between the haves and the have-nots, the older generations and the younger generations, the stranger and the resident of the historic district, the staunch traditionalist and the visionary innovator. God calls us to do this work through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. We as a Church emphasize putting our faith into action, and welcome anyone who wants to join us in this sacred work.
This Church is committed to helping people be open to the power of the Holy Spirit so that they Entrance to the Family Life Center at FUMC in Ocala, Florida.can become one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world. Our mission is to make holy, devout, and active disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and of the world.
We have a long history of serving this community and the world. Methodists from South Carolina established the Camp King Mission here in 1844, and the Church has been growing and reaching the community for Christ ever since. In the 1950’s the church began radio broadcasts of its worship services, and in 1970 led the way with television broadcasts, which continue today. Church membership in August 2012 was 1,942.
